Hello new and fellow travelers! My name is Ivy and I began my travel journey almost ten years ago now. From my first time on a plane to my first international trip, I have made many mistakes and memories along the way. Every trip has been a lesson learned for me, and I have enjoyed creating the most out of my future experiences from those lessons.
As a black, female traveler, it has become even more important to find others who look like me, and want to explore other places around the world as well. I want this to be a space where real costs breakdown, real safety precautions, and real representation was told directly from a source who has personally experienced it. Anyone can Google “Is — a safe place to visit”. But I want to know the specifics: “How did you feel as a black woman in this particular country?” or “Is this a safe place as a queer woman?”.
These types of questions cannot always be easily answered, however, we can create that space for ourselves. Not only is this for those who want to learn how to effectively budget for a trip, but for those who may be nervous about how their identity can affect their travels. This is for black women and other POC, LGBT+ travelers, and anyone who is wondering, “Will I be welcomed here?”.
My travel philosophy is to be open minded about where you want to visit, the world is a beautiful place and I can never stop learning enough about where I am going and where I have been. North, Central and South America and the Caribbean have been the extent of my journey so far, so throughout this blog you will be able to retrace these memories with me, learning from my mistakes and holding tight onto advice that makes all the difference.
